February, 2016. My makes of the month

Hi, How are you! Welcome back, can you believe it.. two blog posts in one month !!! I have been busy though ..

We have been on a little camping trip at the end of January, just before the big summer school holiday finished for our son. We met up with friends and had a great time, lovely beach just over the hill of the camp ground and great food!

The weather was turning, the ocean went a bit crazy but the boys still had fun!

This month I had to finish my mini quilt that I made for my secret partner. The swap is done via Instagram and you can see what everybody has made by looking at this hashtag #tbmqs2.

I decided to think outside the square and make a lengthy mini

I added some extras and made the cutest little bag to place all the items in.

My partner has received her parcel and she was very happy with it. I have more swaps I am working on.. I have a pouch swap, blueberry park swap, for the wall swap and a rainbow mini swap to work on !!! And of course I will get distracted during all of this and will make other items as well.

One of my “had to make” items was this quilt….

Look at it !!! How pretty are these colours together !!!! I am so in love with them and now wish I made it a king size quilt!!! This quilt is currently for sale in my Etsy shop. The direct link to this gorgeous short single / large throw is HERE

IMG_9501Look at the binding.. I had to do something special to this beautiful striped binding, and added a few patches of the fabrics used in the quilt to it.. I thought it was a nice touch, don’t you think ??

I quilted the Half Square Triangle quilt in the ditch, along the three sides of the triangles. The quilt has 117 HST squares, a various mix of pinks, yellows and a dash of black. Fabrics used are from Tilda, Lecien, Cotton and Steel, Art Gallery Fabrics , some Kona Solids and Heather Ross her cool little VW vans! The quilt measures 127 cm x 183 cm … thats 50 x 72 inches. Perfect for on the bed, couch, pretty as decor.. you name.. you can do it.!!

Something else I “had to make” was a cushion cover.. Not just the standard pillow one… No! I mean the huge body pillow one! I ordered a yard (or 3) of Liberty fabric in Thorpe C.. I wasn’t sure what i was going to make with it but I knew I had to get a bit of it just to make sure I had enough of whatever I was planning to make. My dream is to have a doona cover out of liberty fabric…. but I am not a millionaire ! I have been sleeping with my body pillow since I was pregnant with our son Stuart. And after his birth the pillow stayed with me… It has been replaced over the years but I “can’t” sleep with out it anymore. I just love it so I made a new pillow slip for it.

I added a little accent of Amy Sinibaldi her line “Paperie”. That pink matches perfectly with the pink little flowers in the Liberty fabric. I just measured my pillow, folded the Liberty fabric around it to see how much I needed and just started cutting and sewing. No pattern, as its pretty straight forward. The good thing is with Liberty fabric is that it is very wide so it almost covered the whole pillow! I am very pleased with the cover and it sleeps perfectly as well ! Yay !!

Last month I was working on the “Hello Bear” wonky star quilt. I finished this one, posted it to New Zealand and I am glad to say it has arrived and my customer says its more beautiful in real life than on the photos !!!

This month has been busy preparing for the swaps that I am in, but I got to finish one before I was posting this blog so I thought I’d add it in !

I made a sew together bag  from Sew Demented for my partner in the #2016PouchSwap on Instagram. My partner said she liked a couple of different fabric designers so I made the outside of the bag in one of her favorited, Bonnie and Camille fabric.

The inside of this nifty little bag has a mix of Amy Butler, Amy Sinibaldi and Cotton and Steel fabrics.

I hope my partner will like it! I will post it out in the next few days so I can’t say any names yet! I will add some sweets etc to the bag and off it will go. Fingers crossed for a good reception !

Besides sewing all the things, I am lately also very fond of embroidery.

I saw this awesome fabric from Sarah Jane Studios, the line called Sommer. I ordered some and have started the long process of adding lots of colours. Its not finished yet, but I am slowly getting there!

It is a fun little activity I do at night when I am watching some tv. And it seems that quite a few of people liked the idea of embroidering the Sommer fabric as it even got “regrammed” on Instagram by Micael Miller Fabrics and Aurifil Thread!

Thats it for now people, feel free to leave a comment. I really appriciate you being here.
